Welcome: We are very glad you are here. Please join us in the parish hall following this service for coffee, refreshments, and conversation.

Visitors, please take a moment and fill out a visitor’s card in the pew and place it in the Alms basin when the offering is collected OR sign in our guest book located just to the left of the double doors as you exit.

The Flowers on the Altar are given to the Glory of God in thanksgiving for their birthdays by Joe & Gerry Stevens.

Congratulations to our new Vestry members - Collin Andrus, Jim Owens and Shorty Mendoza. Fr. Chris has appointed Collin to be the Senior Warden for 2012, the Vestry elected Bruce Trahey Junior Warden, Charra Wright Treasurer and Michele Walker Clerk of the Vestry. We are grateful for their willingness to serve!

Please bring any blessed Palms that you have from previous Palm Sundays and place them in the basket in the Narthex. They will be burned to make the ashes for use on Ash Wednesday. Dehn Wilson is the contact person for the palms. Please bring them at your earliest convenience.

Thursday is the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple, a.k.a. Candlemass. The service is at 7:00 pm, come join us.

Saturday, the Annual Diocesan Parish Administrators’ Workshop will be taking place in the parish hall pretty much all day long. The Altar Guild will have their regular monthly meeting in the library at 9:30 that morning.

Save the Date: Monday the 13th of February is Fr. Chris’ 25th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. He will be celebrating a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving at 7:00 pm. Fr. Richard Cantrell will be the guest preacher, Bishop Iker and many of the diocesan clergy will also be present and assisting. Please plan to be with us. A wine and cheese reception will follow the Mass.

Welcome: We are glad you are here. Following mass this morning, everyone is invited to have birthday cake in the parish hall with those who are celebrating their birthday in January.

HAY resumes this week on Wednesday January 4 at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall.

We will celebrate the Feast of he Epiphany on its eve with a Sung Mass this Thursday, January 5th at 7:00 pm.

We need help with ‘Ungreening the Church’ this Saturday, January 7th at 9:00 am. We need help to take down the decorations, lights, etc. and store them away. Please come out and help - the more hands the better.

The Altar Guild meets this Saturday, January 7th at 9:30 am.

Sunday, January 8th is the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. If you have a candidate for Baptism, please talk with Fr. Cantrell ASAP.

The Annual Parish Meeting will be Sunday, January 22nd following a 9:30 am Mass. Please turn in written Commission/Guild/Group reports to the parish office by Friday, January 13th so they may be put into the report for this meeting.

The green box sitting on the table in the narthex is there to receive donations for our Northern Malawi Centurion program. Our centurion is Fr. Connex Nyirenda of St. Peter’s Cathedral on Likoma Island. It costs about $100 a month to support a priest in Northern Malawi. Please be generous.

We continue to collect non-perishable food items for our Parish Outreach. The food is distributed through Iglesia San Miguel, our Hispanic mission on the East side of town. Please place your donation in the white basket located in the narthex.

We are doing our Christmas decorating today. We’ll meet at 4:00 pm to prepare the church for Christmas and for our annual Potluck Chili Supper. Come prepared to lend a hand with the decorating and stay for the chili. We ask everyone to bring either a pot of chili or some of whatever is good with it. There is a sign up sheet for chili and condiments in the Parish Hall.

We would like to have a chance to greet one another after the Christmas Eve Services. It would be nice to have some refreshments to go along with that. If you are able, please bring something to share with you when you come this Saturday evening. The Doris Boyd Memorial Eggnog will appear after the Midnight Mass.

Christmas Poinsettias this year are $20 each. You will find forms and envelopes for Christmas flower requests included in the bulletin. All forms and donations must be in today in order to be included in the Christmas service booklet. Your generous donation at this time of year helps to strengthen our Flower Fund.The Flower Fund enables us to ensure that the altar is always adorned, even in the absence of a specific donor for a particular Sunday or feast.

Thank you to all the folks that made quick and generous responses to the Angel Tree families this year. You have brought joy to the families that we adopted.

The monthly Walsingham Mass will be celebrated in the Lady Chapel this Thursday at 7:00 pm. The Rosary Chapter will meet there to pray the rosary at 6:30 pm. Come join us.

Greening of the Church will be at 4:00 pm next Sunday, December 18, followed by a Potluck Chili Supper. Bring a pot of your favorite chili or what goes with it. It’s always fun, we’ll decorate the parish Christmas tree, the church, and the garth -- the more the merrier. There is a sign up sheet for chili and condiments in the Parish Hall.

Envelopes for donations for the Feeding of the 500 are included in the bulletin today. It costs $1.86 for Union Gospel Mission to feed one person. Last week we collected enough to feed roughly 345 people. Let’s feed 500. Checks should be made out to Holy Apostles, marked with UGM on the memo line.

Today is the beginning of Advent and the new Church year. The Sunday Readings will be from Year B and those for the Daily Office will be from Year Two (BCP, pp. 888-1001). Our “Keeping Advent & Christmas” pamphlet is available from the table in the narthex.

This morning we begin our annual appeal for the Feeding of the 500. It costs Union Gospel Mission $1.86 to feed a person; we’d like to raise enough to feed 500, a total of $930. Please use the enclosed envelope. Checks should be made payable to Holy Apostles’ marked with “UGM” on the memo line.

The pledge card in the bulletin today is for your convenience. If you have not already made a pledge for the support of our parish for 2012, will you do so this morning? We need everyone’s participation. Please fill it out today and put it in the alms basin at the Offertory or in the alms box on the wall of the narthex by the doors to the Garth.

HAY (Holy Apostles Youth) will not meet this Wednesday, November 23 but will resume on November 30.

This Thursday is Thanksgiving Day. Join us for Sung Mass at 9:00 am. The parish office will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Our Vestry meets on Tuesday of this week for its regular monthly meeting. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm with Evening Prayer in the choir chapel followed by the meeting in the library.

HAY (Holy Apostles Youth) will meet this Wednesday, November 9, in the Parish Hall from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.

Friday of this week is Veterans’ Day (a.k.a. Remembrance Day in the British Commonwealth). Please remember to pray this week for all of those faithful members of our Armed Forces who have given their lives in the service of their country.

Bishop Iker’s annual visitation is next Sunday, November 13, 2011. There will be no 8:00 service or Forum next week. You are all encouraged to gather with our bishop at 10:00 am. We will host a potluck luncheon following the service. Look for the sign-up sheet in the parish hall today.

Stewardship Update: Have you returned your pledge card for 2012 yet? We need the financial support of every household in the parish. We would like to have all of our pledges in by next Sunday. Fr. Jon Jenkins will celebrate a requiem Eucharist for Janet McClellan, who departed this life early Wednesday morning, August 31, on Thursday, September 8 at 11 am, followed by interment in the columbarium and a reception in the parish hall. Please see the sign-up sheet in the parish hall today to volunteer to bring items for the reception. Please keep Ron, Ed and all the McClellan family in your prayers. May her soul + and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

What an incredible day. Left St. Jean at about 6:50 and got into Roncesvalles at 5:30 or so. I didn’t know you could keep going up for so long. But we had an incredible day for it. Just a few clouds from time to time, but otherwise just incredible blue skies and green mountains for some incredible vistas! In addition to the view we were also joined by fat horses, cows, and much sheep. The bells on the animals made a nice melody. The unexpected treat was a few handfuls of fresh blackberries along the way. The legs were screaming near the top, but the final drop into Roncesvalles. Just inside Spain I stopped1foutain and topped off my water.

Fr. Jon Jenkins will celebrate a requiem Eucharist for Janet McClellan, who departed this life early Wednesday morning, August 31, on Thursday, September 8 at 11 am, followed by interment in the columbarium and a reception in the parish hall. Please see the sign-up sheet in the parish hall today to volunteer to bring items for the reception. Please keep Ron, Ed and all the McClellan family in your prayers. May her soul + and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Last Sunday was Rally Day however it’s not too late to get involved. Look for sign-up sheets for parish activities and ministries on the tables in the parish hall this morning. Please be involved in the life of the parish, and please sign up whether you’re new to an activity or you’ve participated for years. E-mail addresses and phone numbers change — we want to have accurate lists of participants.

Teachers needed desperately for our “Godly Play” (ages 4-8) and “Who is my example” (Intermediate Sunday School (ages 9-12). Please see Lydia Cantrell for Godly Play and Fred Keller for Who is my Example.

Diocesan-Wide Men’s Retreat. The Brotherhood of St. Andrew will sponsor a men’s retreat from 7 pm Friday, October 7th until 6 pm Saturday, October 8th at Camp Crucis in Granbury. Guys, look for information in the parish hall.

Pray without ceasing. Remember that our special intention during Fr. Chris’s sabbatical is to pray for his safe travel, for our supply clergy (welcome, Fr. Duncan!) and for one another. Look for the card with short (five minutes — no kidding) morning and evening devotions, including prayers for these intentions.

Our soloist this morning is Zachary Harrison, a member of the Texas Boys Choir. Zachary also sings in our choir along with his parents, Lyndall and Leslie. The entire Chichester Psalms will be performed in a concert by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Aug 27th at 7:30 in Bass Hall. Bernstein clearly indicated that the solo in movement 2 be a boy soprano. The TBC director, Bryan Priddy, was asked to prepare a group of boys to audition for the orchestra’s conductor, Miguel Harth-Bedoya and he chose Zachary. Tickets are available at www.fwsymphony.org.

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Rosary Chapter meets tomorrow, Monday, August 15th at 6:00 pm to pray the Glorious Mysteries. Mass will immediately follow at 6:30 pm.

The Vestry meets tomorrow in the library immediately following the 6:30 pm Mass.

The Parish Life Commission will meet this Thursday, August 18th at 7:00 pm in the library.

Thursday is Ascension Day. Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 pm. Forty days after Easter Sunday we celebrate our Lord’s bodily return to the Father. It is a Holy Day of Obligation, a day on which all Christians ought to gather in giving thanks to the Father for the gift to us of His beloved Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Potluck Wine & Cheese in the Garth afterwards (weather permitting - Bring your favorite wine and/or cheese to share).

It is not too late to register for this year’s Saint Michael’s Youth Conference. The Conference begins on next Sunday, June 5th. Participants may be between the ages of 12 and 19. The cost of the conference is $335. If you can help scholarship a child, please speak to Fr. Chris this morning. If you know of someone who ought to go, please encourage them to register. The “Bishop Iker Challenge” Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 3rd at Squaw Valley in Glen Rose. Bishop Iker personally invites you to participate in a great day of golf and to support our youth by helping to provide needed improvements at Camp Crucis, along with 50 scholarships for qualifying campers. You can also support this event by purchasing raffle tickets. Joe Stevens is heading up this event for our parish. Please see Joe in the parish hall after the 10 am Mass to buy raffle tickets or to get tournament entry info. He can also be reached at 817- 676-6045.

Pentecost is just two weeks away - June the 12th. Please plan to be with us for our Annual Parish Picnic following the 10:00 service at the Picnic grounds out in front of the church. We will take our Annual Parish Portrait on the steps of the church right after the service. Come dressed for the picnic, wear something red. And enjoy the fun. More info in the June Epistle and in next week’s bulletin.

We welcome this morning Father Robert Young. Fr. Young is the celebrant at the 8:00 mass this morning and the Deacon of the Mass at 10:00. He was also our guest preacher at the Good Friday liturgy. Fr. Young was the rector of Saint Andrew’s Church, Grand Prairie for 13 years before being called up to serve in Afghanistan and Africa in his capacity as a Navy Chaplain. We are grateful for his presence and assistance this morning.

The Basic Christianity Class and Holy Apostles’ Youth (HAY) resume this Wednesday at 7:00 pm beginning with Evening Prayer at 6:45 pm!

Thank you to everyone who assisted this past week in making it a great Holy Week for all of us. Today is Palm Sunday. The palms that you received today have been blessed and should therefore be treated carefully. Some folks like to place them behind a crucifix in their home. Another possibility is to plait it into a cross and use it as a bookmark in your Prayer Book or Bible. You will find directions on how to fold the palm into a cross on pages 21-22 in today’s bulletin. Keep your palm carefully as a reminder of our Lord’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. And then return it to the church next year so that it may be burned to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday.

We need help during Holy Week. Please check the signup sheet in the Parish Hall for the list of volunteer positions needed (including Nursery Duty - four needed on Easter Day). Sign up for a position you can serve in one or more of the services indicated.

You will also find a signup sheet for The Watch on Maundy Thursday in the Parish Hall. The time is divided into overlapping one-hour segments beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21st, and ending at Noon on Good Friday, April 22nd. Several people may keep watch at the same time.

Acolyte Rehearsal for Easter services is Saturday, April 23, at 10 a.m.

If you know of someone to be baptized at the Great Vigil next Saturday evening, please speak to Fr. Cantrell as soon as possible.

On Easter Day, April 24th, there will be a reception after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. It will include finger foods and an egg hunt. A signup sheet for help in setting up, cleaning up, and making food is in the parish hall. Please sign up.

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt after the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Easter Day. Donations of one dozen plastic eggs filled with wrapped candy are needed. Drop your donations in the box on the signup table in the parish hall.

Envelopes are included in this morning’s bulletin, for those who would like to donate flowers as memorials or thank offerings for Easter Day. Please sign them, providing us with names to be remembered, and place them in the Alms Basin, along with your check, when it is passed during the service. The deadline to turn in names is Monday morning, April 18th.

The St. Michael’s Conference Reunion is at St. Stephen’s Church in Hurst this afternoon from 4-8 pm.

Please sign up this morning to help with the Soup, Salad and Bread Suppers for the last of our Wednesdays in Lent. this week we will walk the Stations of the Cross at 6:00 pm followed by Supper and our program. This year our speakers are addressing the substance of the Lord’s Prayer a clause at a time. This Wednesday’s speaker is Father Guptill on “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”.

The Vestry will meet on Tuesday beginning with Evening Prayer at 7:00 pm.

The Parish Life Commission meets this Thursday after the Rosary at 6:00 and Walsingham Mass at 6:30 pm.

Easter will soon be here! If you would like to honor, thank or remember someone or just give flowers to the Glory of God, you can make a $15.00 donation to the Flower Fund for that purpose. Please write in the memo area on your check “Easter flowers”, place it in the envelope you will find in the bulletin with the front filled out & put it in the Alms basin.

You are all strongly encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the Bishop’s Conference on Mission later this month. More details are available on the back of the reading insert this morning. This conference is aimed to be useful for everyone.

Please pray especially this week for our diocesan legal team. We are scheduled to be in Judge Chupp’s court this Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. The other side has withdrawn their request for all assets to be turned over in 60 days. Our Annual Parish Meeting follows this service. Please proceed into the parish hall after Mass and get settled as quickly as you can. The sooner we get started, the sooner we are through.

We need help with Parish Communications! Each household in the parish should fill out a new information form. They will be distributed at this morning’s meeting with the packets. We need them back today! We will be updating the directory and publishing a new one by Ash Wednesday.

Fr. Chris will be away attending the Annual Diocesan Clergy Retreat this week. There will be Morning Prayer at 9:00 am this Tuesday instead of Mass and Basic Christianity will not meet this Wednesday. The Holy Apostles’ Youth (HAY) will still meet on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.

Congratulations to Brant, Adrienne, and Adam Stovall! Preston Blackwell (P.B.) Stovall was born at 8:03 am on January 19th. He weighed 6 pounds and 13 ounces and is 18.5 inches long.

On Saturday, January 29th at St. Vincent’s Cathedral, Bishop Jack Iker will present “Biblical Authority in the Anglican Tradition.” Also, The Very Rev. Robert Munday, Dean of Nashotah House Seminary will present “Bless, O Lord, This House: Nashotah House – A Vision for the Future.” Mass and Unction begin at 9:00 am followed by refreshments at 9:30 am The presentation begins at 10:00 am. The Parish Life Committee meets this Thursday at 7:00 pm in the Library.

The HAMs (Holy Apostles’ Men) are meeting this Saturday for breakfast at 8:00 am. This is the meeting to elect new leadership for the year. All men are invited to join us. Come on out.

We greet Bishop Iker this morning. He was unable to be with us for his previously scheduled vsitation due to illness. It is always a joy to have him with us to confirm Jacob Brown and David Wilson. Accompanying Bishop Iker as his chaplain this morning is his grandson Marcus. Welcome to you both.

The next three days we will keep the traditional post-Christmasday feasts (see the kalendar on the back page for the schedule)- those of Saint Stephen, Saint John, and the Holy Innocents. These days have been kept in the Christian Kalendar since the 5th century. Please join us.

New Year’s Day is a major feast day in the Christian Kalendar, traditionally, a holy day of obligation ~ It is the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus a.k.a., the Feast of the Circumcision. We will keep the feast with a celebration of the Mass at 11:00 am next Saturday. Please join us.

We are doing our decorating at the Church today. We’ll meet at 4:00 pm for our annual Potluck Chili Supper and Decorating Party. Come prepared to lend a hand with the decorating and stay for the chili. We ask everyone to bring either a pot of chili or some of whatever is good with it. There is a sign up sheet for chili and condiments in the Parish Hall.

We would like to have a chance to greet one another after the Christmas Eve Services. It would be nice to have some refreshments to go along with that. If you are able, please bring something to share with you when you come this Friday evening. The Doris Boyd Memorial Eggnog will appear after the Midnight Mass.

On next Sunday, the 26th we will have one service at 10:00 a.m. Bishop Iker will be here for his annual visitation and to confirm Jacob Brown and Dave Wilson. So bring some of your Christmas Goodies to share after that service also.

Christmas Poinsettias this year are $20 each. You will find forms and envelopes for Christmas flower requests included in the bulletin. All forms and donations must be in by today in order to be included in the Christmas service booklet.

Thank you to all the folks that made quick and generous responses to the Angel Tree families this year. Your gifts were delivered to Western Hills Elementary School this past Tuesday. You have brought joy to the four families that we adopted.
