Announcements for the Week of February 19 -25, 2012

The Flowers on the Altar are given to the Glory of God in thanksgiving for Jeanette’s birthday   by Bill McGee.

The Stephen Ministers will have their monthly meeting  tomorrow evening at 7:00 in the Library.

Shrove Tuesday is this week - Fr. Chris will be shriving (hearing Confessions) from 5-6:00 pm in the Choir chapel. The HAMs will be serving up a traditional Pancake Supper at 6:00 pm. Please come and join us.

Ash Wednesday is also this week
. The Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am and at 6:00 pm. Ashes will be imposed at both services. Fr. Chris needs volunteers to assist at both services - a lector and a server. Please speak to him this morning if you can help. It is a day on which to fast. Lent begins!

Thursday evening at 7:00 the Mass will be celebrated for the eve of Saint Matthias’ Day.

Please begin to sign up this morning for our Lenten Wednesday series. We need people to bring - soup, salad, or bread. The Ten Commandments is the theme this Lent. Fr. David Allen, rector of Saint Francis’ Church in Dallas will be our first speaker on the 29th. Stations of the Cross at 6:00 followed by supper and our speaker’s presentation. Mark your calendar!

A Word of Thanks! - To everyone who helped with the reception for my 25th ordination Anniversary Mass, food, serving, cleaning up - all of it! To everyone who helped serve. To Jack for the marvelous music. To you all for the very generous present. I am most grateful - Thank you! It was a tremendous evening and I am thankful for your love and support. God bless you all!

The Flowers on the Altar are given to the Glory of God in memory of Zack Wood by Tracey Mince; and in memory of Steve Summers and Dr. & Mrs. Joseph Shomo by Julia Summers.

Tomorrow,  Monday the 13th of February is Fr. Chris’ 25th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. He will be celebrating a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving at 7:00 pm. Fr. Richard Cantrell will be the guest preacher, Bishop Iker and many of the diocesan clergy will also be present and assisting. Please plan to be with us. A wine and cheese reception will follow the Mass.

Wednesday the Walsingham Mass will be celebrated at 6:00 pm followed by the praying of the Rosary at 6:30, this time - the Glorious Mysteries.

The men of the parish are invited to the HAMs monthly breakfast meeting this Saturday at 8:00 am.

The Vestry will meet immediately after the HAMs breakfast this Saturday at 9:00 am.

Please bring any blessed Palms that you have from previous Palm Sundays and place them in the basket in the Narthex.   They will be burned to make the ashes for use on Ash Wednesday.  Dehn Wilson is the contact person for the palms. Please bring them at your earliest convenience.

Shrove Tuesday is the 21st, plan to join us for our Annual Pancake Supper that evening at 6:00 pm. Fr. Chris will be available to hear confessions from 5-6:00 pm that day also. That’s what puts the shrove in Shrove Tuesday, being shriven of your sins!

Visitors, please take a moment and fill out a visitor’s card in the pew and place it in the Alms basin when the offering is collected OR sign in our guest book located just to the left of the double doors as you exit.

Congratulations to our new Vestry members - Collin Andrus, Jim Owens and Shorty Mendoza. Fr. Chris has appointed Collin to be the Senior Warden for 2012, the Vestry elected Bruce Trahey Junior Warden, Charra Wright Treasurer and Michele Walker Clerk of the Vestry. We are grateful for their willingness to serve!

Saturday, the Annual Diocesan Parish Administrators’ Workshop will be taking place in the parish hall pretty much all day long. The Altar Guild will have their regular monthly meeting in the library at 9:30 that morning.

Announcements for the week of January 2 - January 8

Welcome: We are glad you are here. Following mass this morning, everyone is invited to have birthday cake in the parish hall with those who are celebrating their birthday in January.

The Flowers at the Altar are given to the Glory of God.

HAY resumes this week on Wednesday January 4 at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall.

We will celebrate the Feast of he Epiphany on its eve with a Sung Mass this Thursday, January 5th at 7:00 pm.

We need help with ‘Ungreening the Church’ this Saturday, January 7th at 9:00 am. We need help to take down the decorations, lights, etc. and store them away. Please come out and help - the more hands the better.

The Altar Guild meets this Saturday, January 7th at 9:30 am.

Sunday, January 8th is the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. If you have a candidate for Baptism, please talk with Fr. Cantrell ASAP.

The Annual Parish Meeting will be Sunday, January 22nd following a 9:30 am Mass. Please turn in written Commission/Guild/Group reports to the parish office by Friday, January 13th so they may be put into the report for this meeting.

Congratulations to Bruce and Sharon Trahey on the birth of their grandson, Brazos Austin Wyatt born Wednesday, December 28.

The green box sitting on the table in the narthex is there to receive donations for our Northern Malawi Centurion program. Our centurion is Fr. Connex Nyirenda of St. Peter’s Cathedral on Likoma Island. It costs about $100 a month to support a priest in Northern Malawi. Please be generous.

We continue to collect non-perishable food items for our Parish Outreach. The food is distributed through Iglesia San Miguel, our Hispanic mission on the East side of town. Please place your donation in the white basket located in the narthex.
